What can Childline support you with?
If you need to talk, want change, or feel like you’re stuck we can support you through this. We can provide you with emotional support, help manage your feelings, build motivation, and offer help if you are in urgent need or at risk of harm.
Why contact Childline?
You can talk to Childline about ANYTHING that’s on your mind or that’s happened in your day. Whether you have fallen out with a friend at school, or you have had a tough day at home, you could call us to tell us about your day. No matter how big or small, Childline will be here to support and listen to you.
Talking about your feelings.
Talking about your feelings and emotions can sometimes feel overwhelming and difficult but Childline is a safe and friendly place that you can contact for free. You can take your time in telling us how you’re feeling and sharing your experience.
What happens when you contact Childline?
When you contact our helpline, one of our friendly and trained listeners will be available to support you. They will start the chat by asking for your name, which you only need to share if you feel comfortable, they will also share their name with you. Our listeners will ask you what you would like to talk about during your contact and will be there to listen and support you.
Anything you tell us will be kept confidential. This means we will not share anything, with anyone, unless we believe you or someone else is in danger.
Call Us on 8008
You can call Childline for free on 8008 from any phone in Gibraltar, even if you don’t have credit. Your call won’t appear on any phone bills, so it stays private. We don’t record calls. However, our Helpline Listeners may make brief notes about what you share to help them remember important details and support you better.
Confidentiality
Childline is confidential. This means we won’t share what you tell us with anyone else, unless:
- You ask us to
- We believe your life, or someone else’s life, is in serious danger
- An adult who should keep you safe (such as a teacher, coach, doctor, or police officer) is hurting you or other children
- You tell us you are seriously hurting someone else
- You tell us another child is being harmed and they can’t ask for help or may not understand what’s happening
- The law requires us to share information, for example in a court case
